What Is A Nutritional Therapist?

To become a Nutritional Therapist, Shirley studied nutritional therapy for four years.  Having completed her final year of supervised clinical practice studies she qualified as a Nutritional Therapist back in 2008.  Her studies involved in-depth analysis at cellular level, in order to understand how cells function and importantly what nutrition and lifestyle factors they need in order to remain healthy.  All advice/recommendations are evidence-based

As a Nutritional Therapist Shirley provides nutritional consultations, which identify and address factors that work against good health.  A bespoke nutrition plan is provided which contains realistic, manageable tweaks to diet and lifestyle which support weight loss and management, irritable bowel, diabetes and candida control, joint and bone health support and help support mood and energy level improvement

Functional Lab Tests may be advised, some of which may be available from your GP.  Testing of certain functions can play a useful part in identifying areas of imbalance in the body and in developing a bespoke nutrition plan to address these

Supplements may be advised where necessary. There are many factors in modern diet and lifestyle that can deplete/inhibit absorption of a variety of health-crucial vitamins and minerals.  Initial supplementation can be an important part of a nutrition plan, whilst diet and lifestyle factors are being addressed

Shirley is not affiliated to any supplement brand or company.  Clients can obtain supplements through  The Natural Dispensary,  who offer a wide range of reputable brands online from one convenient source.  Clients are offered a discount on supplements purchased, any commission available to Down To Earth Nutrition is put towards seminars and webinars in order to keep up to date with the latest research and for continued professional development (CPD)

Shirley also works for Nuffield Health as part of their national nutrition network.  She writes regular articles for a variety of magazine and publications such as Cosmo and Women's Health.  She provides nutritional consultancy services to companies, produces nutritional recipes and menu suggestions for organisations and delivers a range of corporate wellness and employee health management solutions

As a full member of the British Association for Applied Nutrition & Nutritional Therapy (BANT) Shirley is bound by their strict code of conduct and practice and is fully registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC)
